ANKARA — Türkiye recorded a current-account surplus of US$4.053 billion in August 2026, while the rolling 12-month balance remained in deficit by approximately US$42.1 billion, according to central-bank balance-of-payments data.

The current account excluding gold and energy posted a surplus of US$8.205 billion. The monthly goods-trade balance showed a US$3.746 billion deficit, while net services income reached US$9.711 billion.

Travel and transport contributed to services receipts. The data also recorded US$141 million in net direct-investment inflows and US$1.034 billion in net portfolio-investment outflows.

The monthly surplus and the 12-month deficit describe different periods and are not contradictory. Similarly, current-account flows should not be equated with the change in reserves: financing transactions and other balance-of-payments items must also be considered. The figures do not establish that Türkiye’s wider external-financing needs have disappeared.
