LONDON — The UK government announced that three floating docks for the Royal Navy’s submarine service and a new marine research vessel would be built by British companies, in statements issued in late September 2026.

The floating docks, known as Programme Euston, are intended for HM Naval Base Clyde. The government cited national security and sovereign industrial capability in reserving the competition for UK firms.

The research vessel is planned to enter service in the early 2030s, replacing RV Cefas Endeavour. Its work is expected to include monitoring fish stocks, marine pollution and the seabed.

The government described the projects as worth billions of pounds without providing an exact combined value in the announcement. The decisions concern procurement and planned construction, rather than completed vessels. Detailed tender, delivery and operating schedules are separate milestones.
