ANKARA — Türkiye aims to complete its drought forecasting and early-warning system in 2027, Agriculture and Forestry Minister İbrahim Yumaklı said in an official statement dated 14 October 2026. Drought-management plans have been prepared for all 25 river basins.
Speaking at the Rome Water Dialogue, Yumaklı said crop planning would take account of water availability and scientific evidence. The ministry is also preparing a national water plan covering the next decade.
The programme links agricultural production with water management in industry and cities. Earlier risk identification is intended to help authorities and users respond before drought develops into a wider disruption.
The 2027 date is a completion target, not confirmation that the warning system is already fully operational. Prepared plans, implementation and measured results are distinct stages. The announcement does not establish a particular change in food prices or introduce a newly specified financial entitlement for farmers.
