The World Bank Group announced the first project under its DRIVE partnership with Japan on 15 October 2026, linking development finance with efforts to improve energy and supply-chain resilience in Asia.
The project concerns the Emerging Asia Infrastructure Credit Fund, established under a Singapore government initiative. The privately managed fund targets US$750 million for lower-carbon and energy-efficiency investments in South and Southeast Asia.
Global Infrastructure Partners, part of BlackRock, will manage the fund. The International Finance Corporation is investing up to US$50 million alongside the Japan International Cooperation Agency, according to the World Bank announcement.
DRIVE was launched in June 2026 to complement Japan’s US$10 billion POWERR Asia partnership. The US$750 million figure is a fundraising target, not a statement that the full amount has already been invested or that infrastructure projects have been completed.
