Türkiye’s August Exports Rise to $23.5 Billion

Türkiye’s exports increased by 8.1 per cent year on year

Türkiye’s exports increased by 8.1 per cent year on year to $23.5 billion in August 2026, according to provincial activity data released by the Ministry of Trade on 8 September. Thirty-five provinces recorded double-digit export growth during the month.

    Eight-month exports reached $185 billion

Exports in the January–August period rose by 4 per cent to $185 billion. The rolling 12-month total increased by 4.2 per cent to $280.3 billion. The ministry said 56 provinces expanded exports during the first eight months and 25 provinces each sold more than $1 billion abroad.

Monthly figures can be affected by timing and high-value shipments, so the ministry’s eight-month and annualised totals provide a broader view of the trend.

Istanbul remained the largest exporting province

Istanbul led August exports with $5.503 billion, followed by Kocaeli with $3.122 billion, İzmir with $1.842 billion, Bursa with $1.423 billion and Mersin with $1.241 billion.

Istanbul also recorded the largest year-on-year monthly increase, adding $634 million. Mersin rose by $467 million and Kocaeli by $444 million. Together, those three provinces accounted for 87.5 per cent of the national increase reported for August.

Ankara led growth over the first eight months

Ankara posted the largest value increase in January–August, with exports rising by $1.185 billion from the same period of 2025. Kocaeli added $1.022 billion, Bursa $960 million, Mersin $655 million and Yalova $479 million. Ankara, Kocaeli and Bursa generated 45 per cent of the overall increase.

Motor vehicles, machinery and precious or semi-precious stones were the leading product chapters contributing to exports. The activity-province method links exports to where production or business activity occurs rather than relying only on a company’s registered headquarters.
