    AGD BRIEF — NEW YORK

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan used his address to the 81st United Nations General Assembly to call for urgent action on Gaza and wider reform of the international system. He said civilians must be protected, humanitarian assistance must reach the territory without interruption, and Palestinians’ political rights must form part of any lasting settlement.

Erdoğan also criticised the structure of the UN Security Council, arguing that decisions affecting more than 190 countries should not remain dependent on five permanent members. He repeated Türkiye’s call for a more representative, transparent and accountable decision-making system.

The Turkish president said international law must be applied consistently to every state and warned that selective enforcement undermines confidence in multilateral institutions. His speech also covered European security, discrimination, regional conflicts and the need for an international governance framework for artificial intelligence.

Erdoğan presented civilian protection, equal application of international law and institutional reform as the central elements of Türkiye’s message to the General Assembly.
