GENEVA — The World Meteorological Organization reported a near-100% likelihood that El Niño would persist through February 2027, in its seasonal update dated 8 October 2026.
The organisation expected central and eastern tropical Pacific sea-surface temperatures to rise further during October–December, with the event forecast to peak in December. The outlook indicated increased chances of above-average temperatures across large parts of the world.
Rainfall impacts differ by region. The update associated some areas with wetter-than-normal conditions and others with increased dryness, raising different flood and drought risks.
This is a large-scale seasonal outlook, not a daily forecast for an individual city. It does not establish a specific local outcome for Türkiye, and a particular flood or drought cannot be attributed to El Niño alone. National and local meteorological forecasts remain necessary for practical decisions.
